Simple data analysis methods in SPSS

SPSS programmā

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a widely used tool for data analysis, especially in social science research. Students can quickly learn to compute basic descriptive statistics such as means, medians, modes and standard deviations. To produce frequency distributions that show the proportion of responses within categories. And to create crosstabulations that examine relationships between two categorical variables, such as gender and programme choice.

The software also enables the creation of visualizations like bar charts, histograms and pie charts. Histograms, for instance, help you see the shape of a quantitative variable’s distribution. Calculating Pearson’s correlation coefficient allows you to explore whether there is a linear relationship between two numerical variables, such as study hours and grades. Before starting analysis, it is essential to check that each variable is entered in its own column with the correct data type specified. SPSS will generate tables and charts automatically. But it is the student’s responsibility to interpret what the results mean, explaining. For example, how to understand an average or the significance of a correlation value. Mastering these simple techniques enables students to independently analyze the kinds of data commonly used in academic assignments.
