What to include in the internship report

prakses atskaitē

Key points.

In general, a practice (internship) report should include all the key aspects of your internship experience in a clear structure. It typically contains:

  • Introduction. State where and when you did the internship, its duration. And the objectives or goals of the practice (what you aimed to achieve).
  • Description of the Organization. Provide a brief overview of the company or institution where you interned (its industry, size, main functions) to give context for your experience.
  • Tasks and Responsibilities. Detail the tasks, projects, or duties you carried out during the internship. You can organize this section chronologically (e.g., week by week) or by categories of work. Explain what you did, how you did it, and what tools or methods you used for each major task.
  • Learning and Observations. Describe what you learned from each task or overall. Highlight new skills acquired or insights gained. And discuss how the internship gave you practical understanding of concepts you learned at university.
  • Analysis/Discussion. Compare your theoretical knowledge with what you observed in practice. Discuss whether the reality matched what you expected from theory. Mention any challenges or problems you encountered and how you resolved them. This section can also include feedback on how the internship was organized or the mentorship you received (if required by your program).
  • Conclusion (Evaluation). Summarize the outcomes of the internship. State whether you achieved the initial goals of the practice. And how the experience contributed to your professional development or understanding of the field. You may also include recommendations for the company or suggestions for improving the internship program for future students, if appropriate.

General conclusion.

Remember to write your report in a formal, academic tone, even though you are describing personal experiences – avoid slang or overly casual language. Include any required appendices (for example, a daily log of activities if your university requires documentation of hours). And ensure you properly cite any sources or reference materials used. By covering the introduction, company background, description of work done, what you learned, analysis. And conclusion, your practice report will meet Latvian universities’ expectations and clearly demonstrate what you did and learned during your internship.
